Chapter 1 : Verse : 21

हृषीकेशं तदा वाक्यमिदमाह महीपते |
अर्जुन उवाच
सेनयोरुभयोर्मध्ये रथं स्थापय मेऽच्युत  ||
ஹ்ருஷீகேசம் ததா வாக்யமிதமாஹ மஹீபதே |
ஆர்ஜுன உவாச
ஸேனயோருபயோர்மத்யே ரதம் ஸ்தாபய மேऽச்யுத  ||

வில்லை ஏந்திக்கொண்டு கிருஷ்ணனுக்கு இச்சொல்லை உரைத்தான்.
அச்யுதா, படைகளிரண்டுக்குமிடையில் என் தேரை நிருத்துக.

Arjuna then spoke to Lord Krishna these words.
O infallible one, [Achyutha]  please draw my chariot between  the
two armies.



Chapter 1 : Verse : 22

यावदेतान्निरीक्षेऽहं योद्धुकामानवस्थितान् |
कैर्मया सह योद्धव्यमस्मिन् रणसमुद्यमे ||
யாவதேதாந்நிரீக்ஷேऽஹம் யோத்துகாமானவஸ்திதான் |
கைர்மயா ஸஹ யோத்தவ்யமஸ்மின் ரணசமுத்யமே ||

இப்போரில் நான் யாரோடு யுத்தம் செய்யவேண்டுமென்பதையும்,
போரை விரும்பி முன்னிற்பார் யார் என்பதையும் கவனிக்கிறேன்.

I may see those present here, who desire to fight, and with whom I must
contend in this great trial of arms.y.



Chapter 1 : Verse : 23

 

योत्स्यमानानवेक्षेऽहं य एतेऽत्र समागता : |
धार्तराष्ट्र्स्य दुर्बुद्धेर्युद्धे प्रियचिकीर्षव : ||
யோத்ஸ்யமானானவேக்ஷேऽஹம் ய ஏதேऽத்ர ஸமாகதா : |
தார்தராஷ்ட்ரஸ்ய துர்புத்தேர்யுத்தே ப்ரியசிகீர்ஷவ : ||

புல்லறிவானனாகிய துர்யோதனனுக்குப் ப்ரீதி செய்யும் பொருட்டுப்
போர்புரிய இங்குத் திரண்டிருப்போரை நான் காணவேண்டும்.

Let me see those who have come here to fight, wishing to please the
evil-minded son of Drutharashtra.


Chapter 1 : Verse : 24
सञ्जय उवाच
एवमुक्तो हृषीकेशो गुडाकेशेन भारत |
सेनयोरुभयोर्मध्ये स्थापयित्वा रथोत्तमम् ||
ஏவமுக்தோ ஹ்ருஷீசோ குடாகேசேன பாரத |
ஸேனயோருபயோர்மத்யே ஸ்தாபயித்வா ரதோத்தமம் ||

ஸஞ்ஜயன் சொன்னது
த்ருதராஷ்ட்ரரே, குடாகேசனால் இங்ஙனம் சொல்லப்பட்ட
ஹ்ருஷீகேசர் இரண்டு சேனைகளினிடையில் மாண்புடைய
தேரை நிருத்தி

Sanjaya said:
O descendent of Bharata, having thus been addressed by Arjuna,
Lord Krishna drew up the fine chariot in the midst of the armies of
Both parties.

Chapter 1 : Verse : 25

भीष्मद्रोणप्रमुखत : सर्वेषां च महीक्षिताम् |
उवाच पार्थ पश्यैतान् समवेतान्कुरूनिति ||
பீஷ்மத்ரோணப்ரமுகத : ஸர்வேஷாம் ச மஹீக்ஷிதாம் |
உவாச பார்த பச்யைதான் ஸமவேதான் குரூனிதி  ||

பீஷ்மத் த்ரோணர்களுக்கெதிரிலும் எல்லா வேந்தர்களுக்கெதிரிலும்,
 “பார்த்தா, கூடியுள்ள இக்கௌரவர்களைப் பார் “என்று பகவான் கூறினான்.

In the presence of Bhishma, Drona and all the other chieftains of the world,
The Lord said, Just behold, Partha, all the Kurus assembles here.

 

 

 Chapter 1 : Verse : 26

तत्रापश्यत् स्थितान् पार्थ : पितॄनथ  पितामहान् |
आचार्यान्मातुलान्भ्रातॄन् पुत्रान्पौत्रान्सखींस्तथा ||
தத்ராபஸ்யத் ஸ்திதான் பார்த : பித்ரூனத பிதாமஹான் |
ஆசார்யான்மாதுலான்ப்ராத்ரூன் புத்ரான்பௌத்ரான்சகீம்ஸ்ததா ||

தந்தையரையும், பாட்டன்மாரையும்,ஆசாரியர்களையும், மாமன்களையும்,
 அண்ணன் தம்பிகளையும், மகன்களையும்,பேரர்களையும், தோழர்களையும்,
 மாமனார்களையும், அவன்பார்த்தான்.

There Arjuna could see, within the midst  of the armies of both parties, his
fathers, grandfathers, maternal uncles, brothers, sons, grandsons, friends, and
also his fathers-in-law and well-wishers.

Chapter 1 : Verse : 27

श्वशुरान्सुहृदश्चैव सेनयोरुभयोरपि |
तान् समीक्ष्य स कौन्तेय : सर्वान्बन्धूनवस्थितान्  ||
ச்வசுரான்சுஹ்ருதஸ்சைவ சேனயோருபயோரபி |
தான் சமீக்ஷ்ய ஸ கௌந்தேய : சர்வான்பந்தூனவஸ்திதான் ||

அங்கே இரண்டு சேனைகளிலும் இருக்கும் மாமனார்களையும்,
அன்பர்களையும் குந்தியின் மகனாகிய அர்ஜுனன் நிற்கின்ற பந்துக்கள்
எல்லோரையும் உற்றுப் பார்த்து
 Within the midst  of the armies of both parties, the son of Kunti, Arjuna, saw his in-laws and
 all these grades of friends and relatives.

 

Chapter 1 : Verse : 28

 

कृपया परयाऽऽविष्टो विषीदन्निदमब्रवीत् |  
अर्जुन उवाच
दृष्ट्वेमं स्वजनं कृष्ण युयुत्सुं समुपस्थितम् ||
க்ருபயா பரயாऽऽவிஷ்டோ விஷீதன்னிதமப்ப்ரவீத் |
அர்ஜுன உவாச
த்ருட்வேமம் ஸ்வஜனம் க்ருஷ்ண யுயுத்சும் சமுபஸ்திதம் ||

பேரிரக்கம் படைத்தவனாய் விசனத்துடன் இங்ஙனம் பகர்ந்தான்.
அர்ஜுனன் சொன்னது
க்ருஷ்ணா, போர்புரிதற்குக் கூடியுள்ள உற்றாரைப் பார்த்து,

He became overwhelmed with compassion and spoke thus
Arjuna said :
My dear krishna, seeing my friends and relatives present before me in such a
fighting spirit

सीदन्ति मम गात्राणि मुखं च परिशुष्यति |
वेपतुश्च शरीरे मे रोमहर्षश्च जायते ||
ஸீதந்தி மம காத்ராணி முகம் ச பரிசுஷ்யதி |
வேபதுஸ்ச சரீரே மே ரோமஹர்ஷஸ்ச ஜாயதே ||

என் உறுப்புகள் சோர்வடைகின்றன, வாயும் வறள்கிறது
என் உடலில் நடுக்கமும் மயிர்ச்சிலிர்ப்பும் உண்டாகின்றன.

I feel the limbs of my body quivering and my mouth drying up. My whole body is trembling,
I am getting horripilation.

Chapter 1 : Verse : 30

गाण्डीवं स्रंसते हस्तात्त्वक्चैव परिदह्यते |
न च शक्नोम्यवस्थातुं भ्र्मतीव च मे मन : ||
காண்டீவம் ஸ்ரம்ஸதே ஹஸ்தாத்த்வக்சைவ பரிதஹ்யதே |
ந ச சக்னோம்யவஸ்தாதும் ப்ரமதீவ ச மே மன : ||


கையிணிண்று காண்டீவம் நழுவுகிறது  மேலெல்லாம் தோலும் எரிகிறது
என்னால் நிற்க இயலவில்லை மனது சுழல்கிறது.

My Gaandiva is lipping from my hand, my skin is burning , I am now unable to stand
 here any longer, my mind is reeling.

Chapter 1 : Verse : 11

अयनेषु च सर्वेषु यथाभागमवस्थिता : |
भीष्ममेवाभिरक्षन्तु भवन्त : सर्व एव हि ||
அயனேஷு ச சர்வேஷு யதாபாகமவஸ்திதா : |
பீஷ்மமேவாபிரக்ஷந்து பவந்த : சர்வ ஏவ ஹி     ||

படை வகுப்புகள் அனைத்திலும் அவரவர் இடங்களில் நின்றுகொண்டு
எல்லாருமே பீஷ்மரையே காப்பாற்றுக.

All of you must now give full support to Grandfather Bhisma, as you stand at your
Respective strategic points of entrance into the phalanx of the army.



Chapter 1 : Verse : 12

तस्य सन्जनयन् हर्षम् कुरुवृद्ध : पितामह :  |
सिंहनादं विनद्योच्चै: शङखं दध्मौ प्रतापवान् ||
தஸ்ய சஞ்ஜனயன் ஹர்ஷம் குருவ்ருத்த: பிதாமஹ: |
ஸிம்ஹநாதம் விநத்யோச்சை: சங்கம் தத்மௌ ப்ரதாபவான் ||

வல்லமை வாய்ந்தவரும், குருகுல வயோதிகருமாகிய பாட்டனார்
அவனுக்கு [துரியோதனனுக்கு] உற்ச்சாகத்தை ஊட்ட உரக்க
ஸிம்ஹநாதம் செய்து சங்கை ஊதினார்.

Then Bhishma, the great valiant grandsire of the Kuru dynasty, the grandfather
Of the fighters, blew his conchshell very loudly, making a sound like the
roar of a lion, giving Duryodhana joy.



Chapter 1 : Verse : 13

 
तत : शङखाश्च भेर्यश्च पणवानकगोमुखा : |
सहसैवाभ्यहन्यन्त स शब्दस्तुमुलो ऽभवत्  ||
தத : சக்ங்காஸ்ச பேர்யஸ்ச பணவானககோமுகா : |
ஸஹஸைவாப்யஹன்யந்த சப்ததுமுலோऽபவத்     ||

பிறகு சங்குகளும் பேரிகைகளும் தம்பட்டங்களும் பறைகளும்
கொம்புகளும் திடீரென்று முழங்கின. அது பேரொலியாயிருந்தது.

After that, the conchshells, drums, bugles, trumpets  and horns were all suddenly
Sounded, and the combined sound was tumultuous.



Chapter 1 : Verse : 14

तत : श्वेतैर्हयैर्युक्ते महति स्यन्दने स्थितौ  |
माधव : पाण्डवश्चैव दिव्यौ शङखौ  प्रदध्मतु : ||
தத : ச்வேதைர்ஹயைர்யுக்தே மஹதி ஸ்யந்தனே ஸ்திதௌ |
மாதவ : பாண்டவஸ்சைவ திவ்யௌ சங்கௌ ப்ரதத்மது :  ||

பின்பு வெள்ளைக் குதிரைகள் பூட்டிய சிறந்த தேரில் வீற்றிருந்த
மாதவனும், பாண்டவனும் {அர்ஜுனன்} தங்கள் தெய்வீக சங்குகளை
உரக்க ஊதினார்கள்.

On the other side, both Lord Krishna and Arjuna, stationed on a great chariot drawn
By white horses, blew  their transcendental conchshells.

Chapter 1 : Verse : 15

 
पाञ्चजन्यं  हृषीकेशो देवदत्तं धनंजय : |
पौण्ड्रं दध्मौ महाशङखं भीमकर्मा वृकोदरः  ||
பாஞ்சஜன்யம் ஹ்ருஷீகேசோ தேவதத்தம் தனஞ்ஜய : |
பௌண்ட்ரம் தத்மௌ மஹாசங்கம் பீமகர்மா வ்ருகோதர : ||

ஹருஷீகேசன் பாஞ்சஜன்யம் என்ற சங்கை ஊதினான். தனஞ்ஜயன்
தேவதத்தம் என்ற சங்கை நாதித்தான். பெருவினையாற்றுபவனாகிய
பீமசேனன் பௌண்ரம் என்ற பெரிய சங்கை ஒலித்தான்.

Lord krishna blew His conchshell, called paanchajanya, Arjuna blew his,
the Devadatta, and Bhima, the voracious  performer of herculean
tasks, blew his terrific conchshell, called Paundra.

 

 Chapter 1 : Verse : 16

अनन्तविजयं राजा कुन्तीपुत्रो युधिष्ठिर : |
नकुल : सहदेवश्च सुघोषमणिपुष्पकौ ||
அனந்தவிஜயம் ராஜா குந்தீபுத்ரோ யுதிஷ்டிர : |
நகுல : ஸஹதேவஸ்ச ஸுகோஷமணிபுஷ்பகௌ ||

குந்தியின் புதல்வன் ராஜா யுதிஷ்டிரன் அனந்தவிஜயம்
என்ற சங்கயும், நகுலனும் சஹதேவனும், சுகோஷம் மணிபுஷ்பகம்
என்ற சங்குகளையும் ஊதினார்கள்.

King Yudhishtira, the son of Kunti, blew his conchshell, the Anantha Vijaya
and Nakula and Sahadeva blew the Sughosha and Manipushpaka. 

Chapter 1 : Verse : 17

काश्यश्च परमेश्वास : शिखण्डी च महारथ : |
धृष्टद्युम्नो विराटश्च सात्यकिश्चापराजित :  ||
காஸ்யஸ்ச பரமேஷ்வாஸ : சிகண்டீ ச மஹாரத : |
த்ருஷ்டத்யும்னோ விராடஸ்ச ஸாத்யகிஸ்சாபராஜித : ||

விற்படையில் தலைசிறந்த காசிராஜனும், மஹாரதிகனான
சிகண்டியும், த்ருஷ்டத்யும்னனும், விராடதேசத்தரசனும்,
பிறரால் வெல்லப்படாத சாத்யகியும்,

The great archer the King of Kasi, the great fighter Sikandi, Dhrushtadhyumna,
Virata, the unconquerable Satyaki,

द्रुपदो द्रौपदेयाश्च सर्वश : पृथिवीपते |
सौभद्रश्च महाबाहु : शङखान् दध्मु : पृथक् पृथक् ||
த்ருபதோ த்ரௌபதேயாஸ்ச ஸர்வச : ப்ருதிவீபதே |
ஸௌபத்ரஸ்ச மஹாபாஹு சங்கான் தத்மு : ப்ருதக் ப்ருதக் ||

மண்ணாள்பவனே ! த்ருபதனும், த்ரௌபதியின் புதல்வர்களும்,
தோள்வலிமையுடைய சுபத்திரையின் மகனும் ஆக எல்லோரும்
தனித்தனியே சங்குகளை ஊதினார்கள்.

Drupada, the sons of Draupadi, and the others, O King, such as the mighty-armed
Son of Subhadra, all blew their respective conchshells.

 

Chapter 1 : Verse : 19

 

स घोषो धार्तराष्ट्राणां हृदयानि व्यदारयत् |
नभश्च पृथिवीं चैव तुमुलो व्यनुनादयन्  ||
ஸ கோஷோ தார்தராஷ்ட்ராணாம் ஹ்ருதயானி வ்யதாரயத் |
நபஸ்ச ப்ருதிவீம் சைவ துமுலோ வ்யனுநாதயன் ||

மேலும் அப்பெருமுழக்கம் விண்ணையும் மண்ணையும் சேர்ந்தொலிக்கச்
செய்வதாய், த்ருதராஷ்ட்ர மைந்தர்களின் நெஞ்சுகளை பிளந்தது

The blowing of these different conchshells became uproarious. Vibrating both in the sky
and on the earth, it shattered the hearts of the sons of Drutharashtra.

अथ व्यवस्थितान्दृष्ट्वा धार्तराष्ट्रान् कपिध्वज : |
प्रवृत्ते शस्त्रसम्पाते धनुरुद्यम्य पाण्डव :  ||
அத வ்யவஸ்திதான் த்ருஷ்ட்வா தார்தராஷ்ட்ரான் கபித்வஜ : |
ப்ரவ்ருத்தே சஸ்த்ரஸம்பாதே தனுருத்யம்ய பாண்டவ : ||

அரசே ! [ த்ருதராஷ்ட்ர வேந்தே] அப்பால் குரங்குக்கொடியோனாகிய அர்ஜுனன்
போர் துவக்கத் தலைப்பட்டிருந்த த்ருதராஷ்டிரக் கூட்டத்தாரைப் பார்த்து, அம்புகள்
பறக்க ஆரம்பிக்குமுன்,

marked with Hanuman, took up his bow and before starting to shoot his arrows, and after looking at the sons of

நாயகா மம ஸைன்யஸ்ய ஸஞ்யார்த்தம் தான் ப்ரவீமி தே ||

பிராம்மண சிரேஷ்டரே, நம்மவர்களுள் யார் சிறந்தவர்களோ
அவர்களைக்கூடத் தெரிந்துகொள்ளும். என்னுடைய சேனையின்
நாயகர்களைப்பற்றி உமக்குத் தகவல் தெரிவித்தற்பொருட்டுச்
சொல்லுகிறேன்.

But for your information, O best of the brahmanas, let me tell you about the
captains who are especially qualified to lead my military force.

 

Verse 8 :)

भवान् भीष्मश्च कर्णश्च क्रुपश्च समितिच्न्जय :  |
अश्वत्थामा विकर्णश्च सौमदत्तिस्तथैव च        ||

பவான் பீஷ்மஸ்ச கர்ணஸ்ச க்ருபஸ்ச சமிதிஞ்சய :  |
அஸ்வத்தாமா விகர்ணஸ்ச சௌமதத்திஸ்ததைவ ச ||

தாங்களும் , பீஷ்மரும் , கர்ணணும் போர்முனையில் வெற்றியே
வடிவெடுத்துள்ள க்ருபாசாரியரும் , அஸ்வத்தாமாவும் , விகர்ணணும்
சோமதத்தன் புதல்வன் பூரிசிரவசும் இருகின்றீர்கள்.


There are personalities like you, Bhishma, Karna, Krupa, Ashvatthama, Vikarna
And the son of Somadatta called Bhurisrava who are also there in the battle.

अन्ये च बहव: शूरा मदर्थे त्यक्तजीविता:  |
नानाशस्त्र प्रहरणा: सर्वे युद्धविशारदा:    ||
அன்யே ச பஹவ : சூரா மதர்தே த்யக்தஜீவிதா :  |
நானா சஸ்த்ர ப்ரஹரணா : சர்வே யுத்தவிசாரதா :  ||

மேலும் எல்லாரும் என்பொருட்டு உயிரைக்கொடுக்கத்
துணிந்தவர்களாயும் பலவிதமான ஆயுதங்களையும்
அம்புகளையும் உடையவர்களாயும் யுத்தத்தில் மிகத்
தேர்ந்தவர்களாயும் பல சூரர்கள் இருக்கின்றனர்.

There are many other heroes who are prepared to lay down their lives
For my sake. All of them are well equipped with different kinds of weapons,
and all are experienced in military science.

अपर्याप्तं तदस्माकं बलं भीष्माभिरक्षितम् |
पर्याप्तं त्विदमेतेषां बलं भीमाभिरक्षितम् ||
அபர்யாப்தம் ததஸ்மாகம் பலம் பீஷ்மாபிரக்ஷிதம் |
பர்யாப்தம் த்விதமேதேஷாம் பலம் பீமாபிரக்ஷிதம் ||

பீஷ்மர் பாதுகாக்கும் நமது படை பரந்து அளவுகடந்து
இருக்கிறது. பீமன் பரிபாலிக்கும் அவர்கள் படையோ
கட்டுக்கு அடங்கியது.
