*Bhagavatham Story #1: The Curse of Parikshit*
King Parikshit, the grandson of Arjuna, was a just and noble ruler. One day, while hunting in the forest, he grew tired and thirsty. He came across a sage, Rishi Shamika, deep in meditation. The king requested water, but the sage remained silent, absorbed in his penance.
Feeling disrespected, Parikshit impulsively placed a dead snake around the sage’s neck and left. When the sage's son, Shringi, heard of this act, he was enraged and cursed the king to die within seven days by a snake bite.
Upon hearing about the curse, Parikshit, remorseful, decided to spend his last days listening to the Bhagavatham, a sacred narration that leads to spiritual liberation. This momentous event marked the beginning of the great narration of the Bhagavatham, told by the sage Shuka.
