Bhagavatham Canto 1, Story #2: Sage Narada’s Instructions to Vyasa

 Bhagavatham Canto 1, Story #2:

Sage Narada’s Instructions to Vyasa*

After King Parikshit received the curse, the story moves to Sage Vyasa, the compiler of the Vedas and author of many scriptures. Despite his vast knowledge and contribution to the world, Vyasa felt an emptiness in his heart. He wondered why he was still unsatisfied even after creating profound works like the Mahabharata.

At that time, Sage Narada appeared before Vyasa and said, “O Vyasa, though you have narrated various historical events and dharma, you have not fully glorified the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Vishnu. Only by focusing on the loving pastimes of the Lord can the soul attain real peace.” He advised Vyasa to compose the Bhagavatham, which would describe the Lord's divine activities in full.

Vyasa, realizing this, set to work on compiling the Bhagavatham to share the essence of bhakti (devotion) with the world.

The verse illustrating Narada’s advice is:

**"tadeva ramyaṁ ruciraṁ navaṁ navaṁ, tadeva śaśvat manaso mahotsavam |
tadeva śocyaṁ durudāmakam yadā, śraddhā-ratir bhaktir anukramiṣyati"**
(“Only those works which describe the transcendental glories of the Lord bring real satisfaction and joy to the soul.”)
